Question: Is the Kwan Um School of Zen a form of Pureland Buddhism? If so. What does that mean exactly?

Knud Rosenmayr JDPSN: Thank you very much for your question!
I remember some time ago in Korea we had a big Buddhist ceremony with many Buddhist rituals, offerings and Dharma talks. Zen Master Seung Sahn gave a talk in Korean and there was a lot of chanting. Everything was full of Buddhist energy. The next day I asked Zen Master Seung Sahn, "Why do you believe in Buddhism? He simply said: "Me? I don't believe in Buddhism. I ask you, "Who are you?" I replied, "I don't know." Then he said, "Only keep don't know. That is Buddhism." So if we have to put a word to it, the Kwan Um Zen School is that kind of Buddhism.
